Rodney says they are probably really sheriff's deputies and that a ticketwriting device may have been set up incorrectly.

Thu, 04/26/2012

Asked Rodney why some agency names list both sheriff and constable.

Wed, 04/25/2012

Rodney uploaded both files to me. (There were two files because the data came from two different systems.)

Tue, 04/24/2012

The dataset was missing some requested information, but Rodney Christian was able to get it added.

Mon, 04/23/2012

Fri, 04/13/2012

Mailed personal affidavit to Melanie.

Cost estimate is $459 or $882, depending on the data I need. (Some of the data, including address, is more difficult to capture.)

I asked for the $882 dataset because I need the address.

Melanie also identifed certain confidential information that she didn't feel she could release. I responded with the sphiel about §730.007, Transportation Code, allowing my access to the data. I offered to have my research advisor send a letter confirming academic use of the data and to also send a personally signed document affirming compliance with the statute.

Melanie said that was fine.

I asked my research advisor to mail the letter to Melanie.

Mon, 03/26/2012

Melanie says she is working on a cost estimate.

Wed, 02/15/2012

Asked Melanie for update on how things are going. She said "It will not be any time soon.   Some of the original information has been found, but with the changes requested and the work load of that person in the IT Department, it will be awhile before he has time to fulfill the request."

Fri, 01/27/2012

Melanie found that they still have the program from 2009 for my last request.

I said that may be OK, but I'll still need address info, which was omitted last time.

Mon, 01/23/2012

Melanie Barton responded, saying I need to issue the open records request to each elected constable and the sheriff.

I mentioned how, in 2009, I made a similar reuqest, and it was handled centrally, from a court records management system.

Melanie said she would check on it.

Re-requested data dump from Dallas County. Prior dump omitted addresses!

Emailed request to darryl.martin@dallascounty.org.

Just discovered that the ticket data has no location information. Emailed Joe Lockhart for more details.

Response: Joe is no longer in the Civil Department. He recommnded I call 214-653-7358.

I called and the result is I need to file a new open records request.

Also, I asked whether they can help compel Wilmer and Addison to produce their ticket records. They do handle these kinds of requests and asked I send a letter to the Civil Department DA.

Thu, 08/27/2009

Received fax clarifying that cost is only $100.60 (slightly lower than prior estimate).

Mon, 08/24/2009

Joe Lockhart called to explain that they will hold my check until the estimate is solidified.

Fri, 08/07/2009

Thu, 07/30/2009

Received estimate for $126.80 for ticketing servers and $2396 for JP traffic case/disposition data (from a mainframe).

Wed, 07/29/2009

Joe Lockhart called with what he can do for me. They are hesitant to release data. Over 2 phone calls, we agreed on acceptable dataset that excludes one field he is not comfortable sharing even with my notarized form.

Fri, 07/24/2009

Phone call with Joe Lockhart.
